Department Summary
The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) promotes academic excellence, universal access, engagement and achievement for the student scholar. UESS programs focus on the educational trajectory of the student by providing opportunities and services essential for progress toward scholastic objectives and intellectual development. UESS departments and programs serve the entire population of UO undergraduate students and partner closely with other campus units to support student success and engagement.
Position Summary
The Assistant Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives and Administration (AVPSIA) reports to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success and is a member of the UESS leadership team. The AVPSIA provides strategic leadership and execution of administrative operations, financial matters, policy development/implementation, personnel matters, strategic planning and other related operational functions within UESS. The AVPSIA makes day-to-day and long-term decisions affecting service, anticipates problems, and exercises independent judgment in resolving those problems. This position regularly requires exercise of independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of the University of Oregon, its programs, policies, personnel, and the issues it faces. The person in the position serves as a communication link among various UESS leaders and campus stakeholders and is involved in many sensitive and confidential issues.
As a strategic adviser and a lead organizer to Vice Provost, AVPSIA is responsible for leading key UESS strategic initiatives and special projects from inception to completion. This will require the AVPSIA to effectively collaborate with a wide variety of campus stakeholders and efficiently manage a wide variety of competing priorities. The AVPSIA will be tasked with researching student success strategies and best practices and making recommendations to the VP based on that research. The AVPSIA will work closely with the VP and divisional leaders to implement applicable research to the work of the division and institutional student success efforts.
The AVPSIA will be detail oriented, highly organized, and able to communicate clearly and persuasively. The AVPSIA will frequently write and speak on behalf of the UESS Vice Provost, and chair or participate in committees.

Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree
• Five years of experience with a university or large organization in administrative, human resources, financial, project or program management.
• Two years of experience supervising employees.
