  • The Libraries at University of Colorado Boulder encourage applications for a Branch Operations Manager for the Business Library! This role will help coordinate and implement the daily services of the William M White Business Library by ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, training, work assignments, procedure setting, performance evaluation, payroll preparation, building and facilities operations, library instruction, and overall workflow of the unit is properly maintained. The Manager will also provide circulation and reference services to meet patron research needs, take a user-centered approach to improvements in the spaces, services, and service points, and analyze unit statistics using library science principles to evaluate service and facilities’ needs. This position will take on responsibilities in the area of library instruction, collaborating on the coordination of the sessions and participating in the instruction team.

    Daily Operations Manager

    Responsible for leading circulation and service desk operations at the William M White Business Library and collaborating as needed to improve processes and develop policies. Ensure that trained personnel staff library during hours of operation; ensure adequate staffing for provision of services, access to materials, and security of the library. Using knowledge of library science and the needs of the Business faculty staff and students, gathers and analyzes data, develops new processes, services, routines, and procedures for library operations.
    Communicate library operations issues and policies to other Libraries and external customers. Supervise and evaluate current services, procedures, practices and documentation for improvement. Initiate solutions to patron difficulties and respond to patron questions and difficulties in consultation with appropriate colleagues; explain Libraries policies provide options to resolve difficulties.
    Serve on Circulation guild to develop, plan, recommend, and implement circulation-related organizational procedures and policies. Serve on other Libraries-wide pods and committees where Business subject knowledge and branch operations expertise is applicable.
    Supervision of Student Assistants

    In accordance with employment laws and University and Libraries regulations, supervise student employees. Actively create an inclusive atmosphere free from harassment and discrimination. Apply knowledge of Business research practices to train student assistants on information needs and behaviors of the College of Business user community.
    Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates and conceptualizes student assignments. Administers student wage budget. Is responsible for student budgeting, scheduling, work assignments, payroll, disciplining, and terminating.
    User Experience and Data Analysis

    Gather user feedback through surveys, focus groups, studies, and informal conversations, on the changing daily service demands at the Business Library. Gather statistical data on space and circulation use. Analyze those service demand patterns, user preferences, and unit statistics to develop customized operational, service, and physical strategies to enhance services and anticipate future challenges using knowledge of trends in Libraries and campus initiatives. This position will reprioritize and redirect available departmental resources to meet those demands. Coordinate unit records, including student payroll, policy and procedure documentation for circulation services, and unit statistics.
    Instruction

    The Business Library conducts library instruction for the Leeds School of Business. This position will be a member of the business instruction team, conducting library instruction sessions on topics in Business. The position will also manage the calendar for the Business Instruction Lab, and work with the Business Instruction Coordinator to ensure that the instruction request process works smoothly.
    Reference

    Provide reference and other assistance to patrons in the Business Library in order to help meet their information needs. Schedule and host research consultations. Evaluate patron's information literacy levels and direct user to appropriate library resources. Requires expertise in information discovery strategies for the business fields and sound judgment in triaging reference questions to the appropriate subject specialists.
    Collaborate with Section, Team, and Branch Members and Other Partners

    Actively participate in and contribute to section, team, branch, Libraries, and other relevant meetings. Monitor and evaluate current services, procedures, practices, and documentation for improvement. Make suggestions and recommendations for improvements to services, service points, and branch as necessary. Stay up to date with changes to Libraries policies and procedures.
    Professional Development

    Stay current with library science practice and trends by reading professional publications and other information outlets such as listservs, by attending instruction sessions and relevant talks, and by coordinating with other department members and members of the larger business library community. Attend workshops and continuing education opportunities that relate to the Libraries’ resources. Develop skills in using indexes and other discovery tools in the social sciences.
    Facilities Management

    Responsible for coordinating maintenance of physical space and facilities, computers, and other technology in the library. Proactively connect with other university departments as needed (Leeds, Facilities Management, OIT). Anticipate building issues that may impact services or library hours and coordinate processes to minimize disruption. Work with UCB Libraries' Security, Preservation, and Technology Teams, along with campus departments, to maintain efficient, productive, and high-quality facilities.
