Job Description:
This position supervises IT Generalist I along with OPS employees. They provide support for client problems and configurations, including web applications, network, software, and hardware. This position is responsible for technology related training for end-users, including application training, operating system use, and hardware functionality.
This position manages the designing, development, and implementation of different web applications on PHP, JavaScript and other programing languages. Development and support of Network web service on Linux and MySQL databases. Construction and maintenance of multiple websites on WordPress, Joomla, HTLM, and CCS.
This position maintains Department computing (Windows and MacOSX)- installation, maintenance, and if necessary, repair of hardware and software for all (Windows and MacOSX) computers within the Department, and provision of training and support for all software applications and usage of the local area network services. This also includes supervising the maintenance of the department web site including database administration, compliance with current web standards and accessibility awareness.
This person is responsible for maintaining the departmental presence in Canvas, assisting faculty with updating course content, and acting as a technical liaison for students in regard to the course materials.
Duties include:
Development and maintenance of Web applications on PHP, JavaScript, MySQL Databases, Python, and others. These include but are not limited to: Leave time request, travel authorization request, MCS AI Recommendation letters, TA Applications, MCS Students registration platform, Fiscal portal dashboard, MCS Calendars, survey platforms, and proctor selection.
Support for continuing development and maintenance of Linux servers and the MCS distance education program.
Plan, coordinate, and oversee hardware and software purchasing and deployment. Recommend, troubleshoot, and install computer systems, hardware components, software and all AV equipment, e.g., Aver, AMX switches for Microbiology and Cell Science Department personnel, including faculty, post-docs, graduate students, staff, OPS, TAs, and undergraduate students in more than 20 labs, offices, and technology rooms. Purchase IT equipment and peripherals as required.
Supervise the development, maintenance, and implementation of the Microbiology & Cell Science main website, Support Marketing team with the MCS Distance Education website, Bioinformatics Minor website, and others. Supervise and guide other IT personnel within the department to ensure smooth operations and efficient workflow.
Solve network connectivity problems. Maintain department wide the Active Directory and server share folder system and other enterprises software platforms. Act as a liaison between department and other UF/IFAS IT personnel. Attend UF/IFAS bi-weekly IT meetings to stay abreast of policy changes and developments. Communicate with department and other constituents regarding IT updates.
Support the MCS online Program of Microbiology department with Recordings, assembling different technologies and software as (Proctor U, cameras web, Honorlock, Aver, MediaSIte), scheduling and support the streaming of online classes. Evaluate the different technologies to find the best options for departmental needs.
Answer computer operation questions for all department personnel as needed. Support numerous computer operating systems (Windows 11, Windows 10, macOS Sequoia, Ubuntu, Mint.
Independent performance of duties is expected. Direction of projects provided as needed. Will report to the Department Chairman, who will be the supervisor of the position.
This position is located in the Microbiology and Cell Science building. We have ample parking by the building.
Expected Salary:
$75,000 - $85,000/ year commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications:
A bachelors degree; or associates degree and two years of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred:
B.S. or B.A. degree with a preference for a degree in computer science or related field. Experience in information technology. Knowledge of web design.
Knowledge of MySQL database structure and function.
Knowledge of computer programming with modern program development tools.
Ability to install configure and troubleshoot computer applications including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office, Acrobat design software, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Sharepoint.
Knowledge of website design, and web applications: PHP, JavaScript, Java, HTML, CSS, MYSQL, Wordpress, T4, usability issues and familiarity with UF web polices and guidelines.
Knowledge of AV equipment and presentation methods, including Aver, Adobe Connect, Zoom, Jabber cisco, AMX, Creston.
Knowledge of network architecture, hardware and operating systems.
Knowledge of network protocols including but not limited to: FTP, HTTP, SMTP, POP, IMAP, MAPI, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, DHCP and others.
Verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of the University Computer Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The ability to work with other network administrators to improve network efficiency. Also, must interface and communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all department personnel daily.

Must be able to lift at least 50 Lbs. (Printers, monitors, computers and other equipment)

Develop web applications and design several websites for the department.
